Job Title: Door Checker
Door Checkers are positioned at each of several entry doors to ensure that everyone entering has a displayed button. Prior to the show opening, Door Checkers will allow entry of Commercial Vendors, Flea Market Vendors, and other volunteers with appropriate badges. Door Checkers also ensure exit doors remain closed throughout the show. Most important: Door Checkers will know the answer to “Where is the prize barrel?
Job Title: Move-In
It’s one of the reasons why we’re known as ‘The World’s Friendliest Hamfest”. Move-In volunteers greet arriving Dealer Show and Flea Market vendors to help them unload their vehicles and move their stuff to their Vendor Booth or Flea Market table using carts provided by the VBC. On Sunday the process is reversed, and, depending on your work schedule, you’ll be available to assist dealers with packing up unsold items.

Another reason why we’re known as ‘The World’s Friendliest Hamfest”. You’ll be working alongside our Hamfest Host & Hostess (Warren & Karen) to serve coffee & donuts early and a mid-day lunch to qualified attendees (Commercial Vendors, Big Flea Market Vendors, and Special Guests) as determined by the appropriate badging.. Duties include policing the Hospitality area to keep it clean and inviting. A few are also needed to help at the evening Hospitality Suite at the Embassy Hotel.
Job Title: Inside Parking Monitor
During Move-In, vehicle parking in the load-in area is at a premium. Our goal is to unload each vendor as quickly as possible and move their vehicle to make room for the next person. You will affix a sticky note to each vehicle with contact info of the driver (table & phone numbers) so we can contact or find the driver to move their vehicle.
Job Title: Dealer/Flea Mkt Check-in Table Aide
You will sit alongside the Dealer Chairman or the Flea Market Chairman to provide dealer packets with badges, meal tickets, and other documentation to each vendor as they check-in. For those vendors needing to pay at move-in, you’ll steer them to the cashier beside you.
Job Title: Outside Parking
In this position you’re the first point of contact with every vendor attending Hamfest. You’ll communicate with Inside Parking via 2m Simplex to efficiently stage arrivals through the entry door. After the entry door closes on Saturday morning, this position transitions to a surveyor to provide real time info to Talk-In on any issues or closures of surface parking lots and garages.
Job Title: Prize Barrel Transport
On Friday morning at 9 AM a driver with a regular bed pick-up truck and helper are needed to retrieve the Prize Barrel from the storage unit at US-72 East near Maysville and deliver it to the VBC. On Sunday between 3 & 4 PM a driver with a regular bed pick-up truck and helper are needed to return the Prize Barrel to the storage unit.

The Hamfest uses a surprising number of commercially produced and computer printed signs. You will assist the committee with setting up signs on easels in both the South Hall and the Embassy Hotel. The Sunday slot is for retrieving the signs after the doors close.
Job Title: Talk-In
Take a turn at the mic to welcome out of town visitors with directions or answers to questions about the show or the City. Your callsign is “K4BFT Huntsville Hamfest Talk-In”, and you’ll be provided with detailed maps of the area and downtown streets.
Job Title: Table Numbering Aide
Use provided Sticky Notes to number each Flea Market Table according to the layout drawing. Also apply large block sign to each block of Flea tables. This helps keep Flea Market Vendors from setting up on the wrong table.
